Summary

Lead a classroom of two-year-old and two-and-a-half-year-old children, working with a Classroom Assistant, to follow The Creative Curriculum, The Pyramid Model, and Grow NJ Kids standards, as we are a 4-star-rated school. We are a warm and nurturing, family oriented small private center, focused on high quality developmentally appropriate education and care.

Duties

1. Offer a program, utilizing the Creative Curriculum for Toddlers & Two's, that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of both the individual and the group. 

2. Planning, supervising and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school. Utilize the Creative Curriculum to guide all classroom activities. 

3. Interact with the children and encourage their involvement in group activities.

4. Gearing the program to the needs of the individual child with concerns for each childs interests, special needs, special talents and individual style and pace of learning.

5. Considering the individual child in relationship to his cultural and socio-economic background.

6. Treating each child with dignity and respect.

7. Supervision of all mealtime activities of the group, based on the policies of the school.

8. Maintain order in the room through the use of positive discipline.

9. Prepare a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing and permits the child to grow and explore.

10. Helping each child to become aware of his role as an integral member of the group.

11. Establish and maintain good communication with parents through parent conferences, responding to their questions by phone or email, through a daily sheet that includes individualized information on the child, and on a daily informal basis.

12. Observe and record anecdotal notes on each childs progress toward the Objectives for Development and Learning and report significant individual and group behavior.

13. Use appropriate and positive discipline and train assisting staff so that discipline is consistent.

14. Assuming an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.

15. Attending all staff meetings.

16. Assuming an equal share of playground supervision.

17. Participating in recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth. Must become an active NJCCIS registry participant (if not already registered). Teachers must meet all Grow NJ Kids training requirements, as well as all CCDBG training requirements, with a minimum of 20 hours per year of professional development. 

18. Implementing methods of effectively utilizing the services of classroom assistants.

19. Assisting in public relations events sponsored by the school.

20. Provide planning and execution of appropriate Early Childhood Education experiences with a wide variety of materials.

21. Provide and supervise activities which develop healthy, emotional, social, intellectual and physical growth in each child.

22. Maintain a safe and secure environment for all children.

23. Be prompt in greeting the children, as it sets the tone for the day.

24. Responsibility for at least one family event per group.

25. Maintain a transition file for each child, which includes all all records and files, such as ASQ results, Assessments, and portfolio contents.

26. Prepare materials needed in the program.

Requirements

The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children especially in the field of early childhood education or development, and be able to meet the requirements of the New Jersey licensing agency for Group Teacher. Must hold at least one of the following:

Infant/Toddler CDA Credential (Child Development Associate)
Associates Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education
Toddler/Two-year-old classroom experience is required.

Must be willing to take additional training as required by the center. All required training time is paid.
This person must be a professional and sensitive individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults. His/her skills must include the ability to create lesson plans and organize the classroom and its staff; assess children's abilities, able to delegate; able to supervise and offer concrete evaluation of staff working with him/her; good communication skills, written and oral; be a good listener. Additional requirements include physical stamina (ability to lift a child up to 45 pounds, and assist in their care and safety), good judgment, and stability.
Must be available to work Monday through Friday, for 30 40 hours per week, during any hours the center is open (7:30 a.m. 5:30 p.m.). This is a year round position.

Benefits

First Year: 40 hours of earned sick leave, which is available to carry over into year two if unused.
Second Year: Paid school holidays plus 10 paid days off which can be used for vacation, illness or personal use.
Paid training time, and payment of registration for all required trainings.
