Overall Responsibility:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Coder to join our team, focusing on pain management procedures. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately assigning diagnosis and procedure codes that reflect the care and services provided to our patients. Your meticulous attention to detail and commitment to compliance with official coding guidelines will greatly contribute to the success of our healthcare delivery network.
While this position offers the flexibility of remote work for experienced coders, there may be occasions when on-site presence in Wichita, KS, is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Assign appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes for professional services and office procedures, with a strong emphasis on Evaluation and Management encounters as well as pain management procedures.
Support providers with coding updates, changes, and educational resources to enhance their coding knowledge.
Collaborate with billing office staff to address coding-related denials, questions, and provide timely education.
Conduct thorough coding analyses and audits of patient charts for compliance and assessment, sharing results and educational feedback with providers.
Review hospital medical records for physician deficiencies, ensuring accurate entry and removal of deficiencies in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. Proactively notify physicians and healthcare professionals about any deficiencies while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Ensure the accuracy of daily transcribed documents for all clinic and hospital encounters, updating deficiency lists as necessary.
Assist with coding assignments for inpatient, outpatient, and pain management procedures during hospital encounters, as needed.
Stay current with state and federal coding guidelines to ensure compliance.
Maintain education requirements for your credentials to support professional growth.
Qualifications:
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P).
An Associate's Degree in Health Information Technology is preferred.
A minimum of two years of acute care coding experience is required; experience in pain management coding is a plus.
Fluency in reading and speaking English is essential.
Strong ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and communicate effectively (both orally and in writing).
Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with colleagues and external contacts.
