The Role

The Linux Engineer is responsible for all aspects of systems engineering and integration including requirements analysis, design, testing, implementation, and validation in an enterprise server environment. This position is the lead Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems engineer within the enterprise.

Active TS/SCI security clearance required.

The Main Responsibilities

• Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration and maintenance, including all applications hosted in RHEL.
• New RHEL systems installation, configuration, testing and integration.
• Lead technical projects through its entirety: research, conceptualization, feasibility assessment, design, procurement, lab test and evaluation, implementation planning, training, documentation, and transition to the operational environment.
• Create technical documents including test plans, test reports, implementation plans, and white papers.
• Server infrastructure analysis and improvement.
• Performance monitoring and optimization.
• Provide advanced Tier III support for geographically separated network operations centers. 
• Ensure systems are within Information Assurance standards by testing and implementing security updates, conducting Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) and Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) scans.
• Administer appliances, such as McAfee ePO, RSA, Veritas NetBackup, Unitrends Backup appliances,
• Assist with the administration and maintenance of MS Windows Server, MS System Center Suite (SCOM/SCCM/SCVMM), MS SQL, MS Exchange, Solarwinds, Remedy.

What We Look For in a Candidate

Qualifications & Critical Skills

• Expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7/8/9
• Experience with Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
• Experience with VMWare and Hyper-V Virtualization
• Proficiency with High Availability administration
• Proficiency with SQL DB Administration
• Understanding of balancing security risk, cost, and delivery requirements.
• Strong technical skills and understanding of information systems, network protocols, firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, log management, network behavior analysis, vulnerability scan tools and processes.
• Ability to provide the proactive status of assigned work and ability to estimate the level of effort for future work.
• Understand patch compliance and system audit data.
• Strong Critical thinking and ability to work in collaborative environment with multiple disciplines. 
• Previous experience in systems security and hardening plus.

 

Technical Certifications

• DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II requirements (Security+ CE, GICSP, GSEC, CND, SSCP)
• RHCA desired
• CISSP desired
• MCSA/MCSE a plus

 

Education or Equivalent Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in an IT related field and at least six years of experience in enterprise network design.
• 10 years of experience in lieu of degree.

 

Other Requirements

• TS/SCI security clearance required.
• Occasional travel to customer locations for meetings.

Compensation

The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications.

Location Based Pay Ranges
$109,330 - $145,770 in these states: VA. 

As with the pay range variety that's based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills , certifications and other business needs.
