Position Duties

This entry-level Instructional Designer position is part of a dynamic team focused on enhancing teaching and learning experiences across the university. The role involves three main areas of responsibility:

1. Faculty Support: Assisting with technical issues, course management, and pedagogical questions.
2. Instructional Design Collaboration: Working with team members to develop curriculum materials and design courses.
3. Learning & Development: Contributing to professional development initiatives for improving teaching effectiveness.

The position requires a bachelor's degree (master's preferred), 1-3 years of experience, strong technical skills, and excellent communication abilities. It's primarily remote with occasional on-campus activities.

Are you passionate about supporting faculty, collaborating with instructional design teams, and contributing to learning and development initiatives? Join our dynamic team where you'll play a crucial role in enhancing the teaching and learning experience across our university.

As an entry-level Instructional Designer, you will engage in:

Faculty Support: Address support issues promptly and effectively, assisting faculty with technical challenges, course management concerns, and pedagogical questions. Work collaboratively to integrate innovative teaching practices where appropriate, enhancing the overall quality of instruction across online, face-to-face, and hybrid courses.

Instructional Design Team Collaboration: Collaborate with fellow instructional designers to create comprehensive curriculum materials, outline courses, and craft instructions for learning activities. Unlike typical e-learning roles, our focus is on developing custom curriculum rather than relying on prepackaged tools.

Learning & Development Initiatives: Contribute to the creation and facilitation of professional development opportunities, helping to design and implement programs that enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes.

We're a remote-first, highly collaborative team that values open communication, accountability, and feedback. While most of our work is done remotely using tools like Teams, on-campus activities are required several times each semester. If you're someone who thrives in a fast-paced, feedback-driven environment, excels at supporting others, with a strong technological background, and is passionate about improving education through multiple avenues, we'd love to have you join our team!

  • Education: Bachelorâ™s degree required, Masterâ™s degree preferred in fields such as Education, Instructional Technology/Design, or related

  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in instructional design

  • Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong technical skills, including proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) (preferably Moodle and Teams), Notion, and other educational technologies.

    • Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices in digital learning.

    • Strong ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with faculty and staff.

    • Ability to work independently, manage projects, and meet deadlines.

    • Creativity, enthusiasm, and a commitment to continuous professional development.

    • Strong problem-solving skills to address varied instructional challenges.

    • Ability to support institutional diversity and the values of a Catholic, Jesuit education.

Successful candidates for any staff, faculty, or administrative position at Loyola University Maryland will be subject to a pre-employment background check. Note: Experience and/or education may be substituted for requirements.
