Job Summary:
The Fabric Manager is responsible for fabric research, development, costing, and commercialization. This position will also play a pivotal role in documentation and tracking processes. The Fabric Manager position requires a strong background in textiles, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with suppliers, cross-functional teams, including Design, Product Development, Technical, and Production, to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of fabrics.

Essential Functions (Including but not limited to):
  • Manage fabric development milestones and collaborate on fabric assortment decisions: track fabric submissions, monitor milestones, and troubleshoot issues with partners.
  • Arrange fabric appointments with core mill partners and analyze fabric testing to meet quality standards.
  • Oversee the sample yardage ordering process and ensure on-time delivery to garment vendors.
  • Analyze all fabric FDS and existing testing to ensure fabric can pass testing standards in the development process.
  • Organize and maintain a fabric library and resources, with knowledge of dyeing, printing, and finishing techniques.
  • Communicate deliveries to internal sourcing partners and ensure on-time delivery of sample yardage to garment vendors.
  • Build and maintain supplier relationships and negotiate pricing and lead times.
  • Report on sustainable materials and ensure compliance with fiber documentation standards.
  • Maintain alignment with cross-functional teams to meet objectives.
  • Attend seasonal fabric shows and agent fairs.
  • Manage sample ordering process and pass off from NY to overseas teams and ensure milestone and timeline adherence.
  • Oversee receipt and organization of sample yardage cuttings.
  • Align with QA team on seasonal high risk raw material.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned in support of the company needs and operations.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • BA degree in Textile Management or related field and 7+ years’ experience as a Fabric Manager or similar role in the wholesale apparel industry or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • Experience with fabric adoption processes across various product categories, including knits and wovens.
  • Strong understanding of fabric development and quality processes with an understanding of dyeing, printing and finishing techniques.
    Strong negotiation and communication skills with proficiency in sourcing for nominated and full package programs.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret data and draw valid conclusions that show understanding and insight with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong business judgement and sense of urgency and can work independently under critical time frames.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and workload seamlessly with keen attention to detail and follow-up.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and ability to apply good work habits to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the company.

Job Location: On-Site

Job Hourly Rate: $41.00 - $57.00 p/h 

This role is a contract/freelance position for 3-6 months. * United Legwear & Apparel Company is interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States.
