The Director of Community Wellness provides overall strategic leadership regarding student support by fostering a safe and successful student environment. This position ensures that a school-wide approach to wellness will be woven into the academic, athletic, spiritual, social, and residential aspects of student life. Working with members of the administration, chaplain, counseling center, health center, dining services, teachers, advisors, and athletics, the Director of Community Wellness creates, implements, measures, and monitors a comprehensive, proactive wellness strategy to best serve the Holderness community. 

The Director of Community Wellness is an active member of the Holderness community and is expected to be fully engaged in the school's daily life.

The Director of Community Wellness reports directly to the Head of School and is a member of the leadership team. This position will oversee the Counseling Center, Equity & Inclusion, and Health Center and, depending on experience, may also oversee Athletics, Residential Life, and Student Activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Head of School’s point person for creating an optimal campus culture and wellness practices across the school. This involves collaborating with Associate Heads and Program Coordinators to design and instill best practices. Evaluate, design, and implement programs to ensure our programs, policies, schedules, and activities support student wellness and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with the Head of School, Associate Head of School, Associate Head of School for Finance & Operations, and organizational directors to contribute meaningfully to Admissions, Advancement, and Communications.  
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the people overseeing the Athletics, Counseling Center, Equity & Inclusion, Health Center, Residential Life, and Student Activities.
  • Work closely with the Leadership Team to ensure that our mission to develop the people with world needs most is at the center of all decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the chaplain to align physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness programs.
  • Support teachers, advisors, coaches, and dorm parents through professional development guidance as they work with our students.
  • Communicate with parents to provide context and understanding about the breadth of changes students face and how we partner to support students.  
  • Act as Liaison with the School Life Committee of the Board of Trustees. 

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a Masters degree in school counseling, psychology, psychiatry, wellness, education, or a related field.
  • At least 3-5 years of administrative and clinical counseling experience are required; experience in a school environment is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work with students, parents, outside providers, and school-wide teams.
  • A genuine interest in working to support a school community.
  • Exceptional follow-through and organizational skills, as well as the flexibility to meet the time-sensitive needs of the community.
