Job Description

The Role:

• The School Custodian provides custodial services at the assigned site ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. 
• The School Custodian is an important part of the FLACS family, working to ensure the readiness of FLACS schools. 
• Under the supervision of the building's Principal, Head Custodians, and Network Supervisor who will provide an annual evaluation.

Responsibilities:

• Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g. classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment while adhering to OSHA and maximum safety procedures. 
• Move books, files, boxes, furniture, etc.
• Clean and sterilize all high-use areas to reduce the spread of bacteria and other harmful agents.
• Travel to nearby schools or warehouses/storage as required.
• Perform maintenance of the building, such as drywall repairs; minor carpentry; classroom furniture; replacing light bulbs, ballasts & fixtures; painting projects; ceiling tile replacement; playground maintenance, athletic areas, grounds repairs; equipment audits, building inspections; safety issues, repairs; small landscaping projects; additional items as they arise.
• Participate in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions. 
• Maintain exterior of the sites, including snow/ice removal, trash removal, etc. as needed
• Ensure adherence to OSHA and maximum safety procedures.
• Carry a handheld radio at all times while on school property if assigned by the Supervisor 
• Follow federal and state laws, as well as company policies.
• Report and assist with all emergencies as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Maintain excellent Time and Attendance.

Requirements: 

• Minimum high school graduate required with continuing education construction or facilities related preferred but not required.
• Excellent physical condition and strength.
• Attention to detail and conscientiousness.
• Proven experience as custodian, janitor, or in a similar role.
• Nurturing spirit and welcoming personality.
• NYS fingerprint clearance.
• Knowledge of using and maintaining industrial cleaning equipment and appliances, safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components, and familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices is preferred.
